Hello, I have recently had lots of problems with Outlook on mac. I had upgraded MS Office from 2011 to the new version - Exchange wouldn't work and had to revert back. After reverting back the indexing was not working properly, if i try to search an email from someone the recent email would not show up or the email i need wouldn't turn up. Tried reindexing - it worked 50% (tried re indexing by commands from terminal) After all this hassle, I installed Outlook 2016, I imported all the data from Outlook 2011 to 2016 by creating a new profile and importing data. I got all the emails apart from a weeks email (Why? No idea as the import was successfull), indexing still does not work well after import.
On your Exchange 2016 databases you may encounter a situation in which the content index fails. A failed content index will impact Outlook on the web (OWA) users trying to search their mailbox contents, and can also cause database switchover and failover problems for you. In Outlook 2016 for Mac, users receive a message “No Results,” when they try to search specific mail message or task items are not displayed in Task folder. Moreover, when users search for mail items by utilizing Mac OS spotlight search, the search is not successful.
I am not much of an Apple Geek so i need advice or Help if anyone could guide me to solve this problem once and for all. Also, i would like to go how to add tools on Work and excel 2016. I used to do this in 2011.
Thanks in Advance. As a form of completeness, I 'forced' another re-indexing from Spotlight and now, slowly, I'm seeing results from my queries inside Outlook SEARCH. So, for folks that might be helped by this exchange, it would appear these are the most important factors: - Running Sierra 10.12.1 - Running MicroSoft Outlook Version 2016 - 15.27 - Reboot your MAC, to make sure all updates are active - Force a SPOTLIGHT re-index by Going to Preferences - Spotlight - Privacy Drag your Macintosh HD (This basically tells Spotlight to wipe-out all indexes - Nothing bad, just indexes no files) Confirm you really want to do this? YES you really do. Again, nothing will be dropped except the indexes Then, Remove Macintosh HD entry, the one you just created in the prior step Then click out of the Privacy screen Now wait. A rather long time. Yes, even with a MacPro Laptop with a SSD, you can wait for at least 45 minutes, of course your time will vary depending on the number and size of your files.
I have a 1 TB SSD, it's 50% full, and roughly 1.5 million files. I hope you see good results. Apple Footer.

Hello Steve, Welcome to Microsoft Community. Search Indexing can take a long time depending on the number of items to be indexed on the computer. Since when do you have this issue with the Indexing status not completing and suspended on approximately 30000 items? Have you tried rebuilding the search indexing and are you experiencing this issue since then? If not, and if you have not rebuilt the search from Outlook, you may try rebuilding the search indexing. To resolve this issue let us try the following steps to rebuild the search indexing in Outlook 2016. In Outlook click on File and then then click on Options.
In the Outlook Options window click on Search and then under Sources click on the tab Indexing Options. In the Indexing Options window click on Advance. Under Index Settings click on Rebuild. As Indexing takes a long time, allow Outlook to rebuild the Indexing for about 12 to 24 hours and verify the result after about 24 hours. After completing the above steps, make sure to restart your computer. Allow at least a day or two for the search indexing to complete indexing in the background.
Check after a couple of days if the search indexing has completed in Outlook 2016. Hope the above steps help. Here is what eventually worked. Sequence is important!
I had to remove Indexing as a Windows feature and reboot. Then I had to remove Windows Search as a Windows feature and reboot.
Then I had to open Outlook and let it figure out that searching wasn't possible. Close Outlook. Turn Windows Search back on and reboot. Turn Indexing back on and reboot. Open Outlook, go to search and ask it to rebuild the index. Close Outlook.
Open Outlook and let it rebuild the index. I tried doing only some of these steps, and I tried doing these steps in a different order. This was the only sequence of steps that worked.
